After a week of absence, it is time to jump back into the world of sports with Headline Reactions. This time of year is usually about trade deadlines and contract extensions. This week, a blockbuster trade took place in the NBA and players in the NFL are signing their various extensions. However, not all of the headlines were about contracts, and plenty of headlines were worth reacting to this week.
“DeMarcus Cousins Traded to the Pelicans”
Probably the most controversial event over the weekend, the Kings traded away Cousins, who has been averaging 27 points per game. Cousins has been a force to deal with for opposing teams, and now he has been traded to New Orleans. The Pelicans has Davis, so adding Cousins will certainly benefit in the short-term. The Kings, on the other hand, are looking towards the future, with adding a few prospects and draft picks.
“Cameron Wake signs two-year extension with the Dolphins”
Wake signed a contract with the Dolphins that could be worth up to $18 million, with $11 million guaranteed. Wake has been a staple of the Dolphins defense, who proved that they could keep opponents in check. Wake can make the full $18 million, only if he plays 55% of the snaps. The Dolphins will look to Wake to provide stability for the defense this next season.
“LeBron insists that there is no rivalry with Curry”
LeBron James has insisted that there is no rivalry between him, and Curry. Maybe LeBron is being honest for himself, but for the sports world as a whole, LeBron and Curry is a vicious rivalry. It is good for players to keep their emotions in check, but since sports fans can be as emotional and involved as they want, I will still insist that Curry and LeBron is one of the greatest rivalry’s in recent NBA history.
“Elliot making running backs vital again”
Herschel Walker said that Elliot is making running backs vital in the NFL again. Elliot had an exception rookie season, and many see Zeke as the running back of the future. Elliot was vital to the cowboys, and is another example of how important running backs is for NFL teams.
“Michael Floyd pleads guilty to extreme DUI”
Floyd’s career has drastically gone down hill, and it has not slowed down. First, he got cut by the Cardinals after a DUI. Then his stats went down, and now, Floyd is going to jail for a 120 day sentence. Some of those days will be in a county jail, and the rest will be at home. This might be the last nail in the coffin for Floyd’s career, and it has shown no sign of stopping.
