Franchise Tag Bonanza: Sports Headlines Reactions 2/27/17
This is a hectic time for the sports world. The NBA is in full stride, March Madness is arriving and the NFL free agency is beginning. Trying to decipher all of the sports news can be difficult, and is always tiresome. There are many different reactions that people have to sports, whether it is joy, sadness or confusion (like the Oscar’s Best Picture). Here are the various headlines from over the weekend.
“Arizona Cardinals franchise tag Chandler Jones”
The amazing linebacker got franchised tag, which is good for the Cardinals, but maybe not the ideal situation for Jones. Not that Arizona is not a good place for Jones, but no player loves the franchise tag. If Jones did not get the tag, another team would have snatched him up right away, so overall, good move for the Cardinals.
“Gonzaga loses last game of regular season”
Probably the biggest news over the weekend. Formerly number 1 Gonzaga lost their final game to BYU. Gonzaga failed in their attempt of a perfect season, and now they are ranked number 4. Kansas is now the new number one. I wrote an article about how Gonzaga was over ranked, and this may be a sign of things to come.
“Tim Tebow is with the Mets at Spring Training”
Tebow-mania is alive and well. I support Tebow, and hope everything goes well for him at spring practice. Tebow has shown that he can hit with power, but his technique is lacking a little. However, time can solve all problems. Tebow is predicted to play in some grapefruit games, and then we will actually see if Tebow has any promise.
“Kyle Lowry preparing for surgery on wrist”
The Raptors are going to miss Lowery, who averages 22.8 points per game. The Raptors are hoping that he will return for the playoffs. Most likely, Lowery will be out for 4-6 weeks. Once Lowery gets his wrist fixed, and gets it rehabilitated, we will see how far the Raptors can go in the playoffs.
“Le’Von Bell receives the franchise tag”
This move is not surprising in the least. The Steelers were expected to tag Bell and are probably going to try to sign a contract with Brown. Bell wanted to stay in Pittsburgh, however, he probably wishes he would get the long term contract over Brown. We will see if this tag will effect Bell’s free agency next year.
