The Golden State Warriors has been struck with a dose of reality. They are not the same team without Kevin Durant. Some say that it is only a matter of time until they get their rhythm back. Others say that it is a gapping hole, and that it will not be easy to fill. The Warriors cannot completely lose their touch, since they still have important players still on the field, but losing an all-star is definitely a huge issue, and will another team take advantage of the situation?
Golden State Warriors in a slump
Like I said above, the Warriors are still in shock after the injury of Kevin Durant. Durant has been a big part of this team, contributing consistency, and stability. However, since he got an MCL injury, the Warriors have lost two of the past 3 games. Of course, you can make the argument that this is only a short-term problem. However, you cannot replace Durant overnight, you cannot replace Durant in a month. This is a gaping hole for the Warriors, and Durant being out for 4 weeks is a big problem.
San Antonio Spurs on a streak
The Spurs are on a 7 game winning streak. The Spurs are rolling through teams, and are only 2.5 games back of the Warriors. The Spurs know have a legitimate chance to overcome the Warriors, who are in a tough spot. The Spurs have hope, which is extremely hard to beat in a game. The Spurs are in the perfect spot, and have to continue to produce wins in the next month if they want the top seed.
A couple of key games
Their are two games that will probably determine which team will have the number one seed. These two games are when the Spurs and the Warriors play against each other. The first game is right around the corner, and whoever wins that game will definitely have an advantage. The next game is at the end of march, and this might be when Durant could make his return, if the Warriors feel that it is a must-win game. Both games are at San Antonio, which will give them a little advantage for the moment.
