Heading into March Madness, is there no Clear Number One?

March Madness is some sports fans holiday, for others, it is a chance to test their statistical skills.  Most of the time, there is a team that reaches an expectation of winning the Final.  However, this season, every team is seen as vulnerable.  Gonzaga lost its last game of the season, Kansas lost to TCU in the Big 12 Playoffs, Villanova has had devastating defeats, and UCLA lost to Arizona.  Is there no clear frontrunner?

When we look at the group of teams at the top, we see that each team have what it takes to win, but each team also have their doubts.  No one can say for certain that Kansas is better than UCLA, or that Villanova is better than Gonzaga.  All of these teams have their ups and downs, and none of them have much of an advantage over the other teams.

I would make the point, however, that the top four teams are the frontrunners.  That their is no one clear number one, but actually 4 or 5, maybe 6.  The talent level for the top of the pack is amazing, but not extraordinary.  Most sports fans believe that the top seeded teams have the best chance, but that is true every year.  This season, though, no one team is ahead of the pack.  Remember Kentucky?  Yes, everyone believed that they were going to win, and yet this year, their is no team like that.

Believe it or not, this is a good thing.  March Madness is supposed to be just that, madness.  If a team continually won year after year, and everyone believes that they will continue to win (ahem, New England Patriots), then it would be very boring.  So enjoy the suspense, and watch some great matchups, whether it is your team or not.

Well, there you have it, fellow Sports Reactions, and remember, be the best sports fan you can possibly be.
