A Final between two Powerhouses: Gonzaga Vs. University of North Carolina
Many times when a final or championship comes around in the world of sports, a “David v. Goliath” matchup is usually present or discussed. However, even if there is no such matchup, a championship is still discussed or portrayed as “The powerhouse v. the underdog”. In the NCAAM championship, that portrayal is not true.
Both Gonzaga and UNC are 1 seeds. This has happened twice over the past three years. The best teams are making it through the tournament. The unpredictability of March Madness is deteriorating, and predictability is invading our brackets. Now admittedly, there is still surprises in March Madness. Kansas lost against Oregon for crying out loud. However, it is becoming easier to discern whether a team will push through, or fall back.
UNC is a powerhouse that continues to be a powerhouse. UNC has been to the final game a lot, and is usually a strong contender in March Madness. Everyone knows who UNC is, and UNC knows who they are. They are the Lion in this matchup. Everyone knows a Lion. It was one of the first animals I learned as a child. The Lion is the king of the jungle. No one doubts the power, and strength of a Lion, and everyone is aware that a Lion is a vicious, and powerful beast. The Lion and UNC are similar. Both are strong, and powerful. Both are one of the most known beasts of the wild. UNC is a strong beast, and no one doubts UNC’s ability.
Gonzaga has been a “good” team. They have done decent in past years, but never got to the Final Four until this year. Gonzaga has sneakily snuck into the Championship. Gonzaga was ranked number 1 for multiple weeks, but many people (including myself) thought that Gonzaga did not have what it takes to make it to the Championship. Gonzaga is not a big name school, or the most common to mention, but they have had very good teams in the past. It is like the crocodile. The crocodile is known to be powerful, but the crocodile stays hidden, and is not as “showy” as the Lion. It is stealthy, and can get the job done. Gonzaga is the crocodile in this matchup. Yes, everyone knows that they are good, but sometimes Gonzaga stays in the background, and blends in with everyone else. Gonzaga has been getting everything done, and has been successful.
This is a matchup between two powerhouses, between a Lion, who is the popular beast, versus the Crocodile, who is stealthy, and is also just as powerful as the Lion, just in a different way.
