The NFL had it’s annual meetings, where owners, and officials decide, and vote on certain rule changes or updates. This year was no different, and 4 key changes were made to the rules. Now whether they are good or not is the real question.
75 man roster cut eliminated
I really like sports, and I am always interested about who gets dropped by a team. Now, at first, I was sort of disappointed. Only because it meant I would have to wait longer before teams start cutting down their rosters. However, the more I think about it, the day the 53 man roster cut comes, it is going to be a lot more serious. Instead of teams cutting 22 guys, they now will cut 37 players on one day. That will make it a lot more of an interesting day to put on the calendar.
Extra IR spot
Last year, the NFL made a rule where the team had to desiginate one player to return after the 8 week period on the IR. Now, they are upping the amount to two, which is good. Many teams had a few guys that they would have liked back, but could not. Now, at least, if teams have a lot of injured stars, two of them can return.
More generosity with player celebrations
This is one of the biggest headlines on whether the NFL should be more strict or lenient on celebrations. They took the lenient route. They are allowing the ball to be used as a prop, and allowing group celebrations. I like this, mainly because now they are at least addressing the issue at hand. Antonio Brown will be extremely thankful.
Ten minute overtimes
This one is a little interesting. The main reason that this rule got changed was to cut down on the play time that teams had to play before their next games. This will make ties a more common things in the NFL. Also, a team can drain a good 7 minutes on the clock, and end up kicking a field goal. That means that the other team has to score in 3 minutes, which is definitely going to have to be a quick drive. I feel this gives the team who gets the ball first an even more advantage over the team who gets it second (unless a touchdown is scored, or course).
