Upset Alert for this Weekend? 2018 Wildcard Predictions

This is my first post in 2018, so Happy New Year! The Wildcard Round is just around the corner, so I took a stab at predicting the outcomes of every game. Did your team make it to the next round?

Titans Vs. Chiefs

This game will come down to who can rush the ball better (or stop the run better, either way).  Every single lost that the Chiefs have had this season had one main common denominator.  In every loss, Kareem Hunt had less than 20 carries, and could not get the ball moving.  So if the Titans can get the Chiefs away from handing the ball to Hunt, and not allow gigantic plays, than they will be fine.  The Chiefs also need to stop the Titans from running the ball as well.  The Titans cannot depend on the pass, and will be without DeMarco Murray.  The Chiefs offense will probably get to be too much for the Titans, and will score early, causing the Titans to depend on Maroita’s Arm (and we know what that means).

Chiefs 23, Titans 17

Falcons Vs. Rams

The Falcons sneaked into the playoffs, and the Rams rested their starters in Week 17, even though they had a possibility of moving up or down.  The Falcons are a little inconsistent…

Every Sports Fan

They can play like the 2017 NFC Champions or like a 10-6 wildcard team that got the 6th seed.  The Rams have had a breakout season this year, with Gurley, and Goff outperforming most expectations.  The defense is one of the top in the league as well, and have been deserving of a playoff spot.  Most will likely predict the Rams winning, but I will go for the upset (why not?), and say the lack of playoff experience on the roster (and head coach) will be too much for a Rams team to handle, with the Falcons pulling the upset.

Falcons 24, Rams 20

Bills Vs. Jaguars

How most of us sports fans will be reacting this weekend.

Did anyone think that this would be a playoff matchup before the season began?  Uh, no one?  Okay, so the last time the Bills made the playoffs, fans were worried that all technology was going away at the turn of the century.  The Jaguars have not been to the playoffs for around a decade.  So through inexperience out the window, because both teams are dealing with it.  The Jaguars have been riding high on their defense, and Fournette.  The Bills have been up and down all season, and barely squeaked in because the AFC was trash this season.  The Bills made the playoffs…WHooPPeee!!!  They still are a 9-7 team…The Jaguars are 10-6 (but would have won their last game if it meant anything), and have the best defense in the NFL, and a great rushing attack.  The Bills will probably be without McCoy, or with an injured McCoy at best, who is the main reason why this team is even playing football in January.

Jaguars 27, Bills 13

Panthers Vs. Saints

This game is by far the most interesting game this weekend.  Both teams are good, and have shown flashes of greatness.  The Saints have found a great rushing game, a solid defense, with the added bonus of having Drew Brees at quarterback.  On the other side, you have a team that has Cam Newton, who has either been the most dominant in a game, or a total dog in a game.  They found a unique offensive weapon in Christian McCaffery.  The Panthers offense as a whole has been, to say the least, very inconsistent.  However, the Panthers defense has  been doing its best to make up for that by being one of the most stingy, and hard-pounding defenses in the league.  The Panthers strongest unit is their front 7, being considered by most the best front 7 in the league.  Luke Kuechly is still playing at a hall-of-fame level.  However, this defense will have its hands full when they go to meet the Saints a third time, with Kamara, and Ingram at RB, Brees at the helm, and Michael Thomas running his routes.  It will be close, but the Saints will barely pull it off to advance to the Divisional Round.

Saints 21, Panthers 20

And here is Bad’ju, a grand person, with a very, very “Different” way of Judging things.

Bad’ju Dgement Prediction

In the Wildcard round, all 4 of the road teams (5th, 6th seeds) will beat their opponents.  Never in the History of the NFL has that every happened.

Well, that is my predictions for the Wildcard Round (and Bad’ju’s), SR Nation.  Who do you think will win?  Comment below your Wildcard round Winners, and follow the Sports Reaction to become a part of the SR Nation.  And remember, be the best sports fan you can possibly be, and do WLYF.

  • Thanks for the like earlier on the US Men’s Olympic hockey article. I appreciate it 🙂

As a Bills fan since the early 90’s, I gotta say it was great to see them get back there, regardless of how far they were going to go. Around these parts, all we heard was “drought, drought, drought” for YEARS. Welp, thats over. Kinda. (Now we just gotta get that elusive next playoff WIN..)

Did you watch the game? It was a close one, kept me on the edge of my seat for the whole time, and the fact that the Jaguars were able to do so much damage to Pittsburgh a week later after only putting up 10 on the Bills is both confusing and encouraging. A late touchdown in the first half instead of a field goal would’ve changed the outlook of the entire game, and quite possibly the Playoff bracket beyond that.

Late to the party, maybe, but fresh in my mind, I assure you.

    • I am a Kansas city fan, so I have had my share of sports pains over the years as well. Everyone used to talk about the Royals and their playoff drought before they won the World Series. And the Chiefs have been far then stunning in the playoffs. Haha

Even though I am a lifelong Chiefs fan, I have always wanted to see the Bill’s have success. Although they lost in the Wildcard this year, hopefully they can build on it, and go further next year.

  • Oh man, I’m an Orioles fan, too, and it seemed as if KC and Baltimore were coming into their own at the same time. Obviously, the Royals got the job done and the O’s haven’t just yet, but was good for a little bit there. 2018 is a new year all over the place though; c’mon teams!
